Today, 6/26/12, is National Beauticians Day. Thank you to all the beauticians out there who make us look and feel fabulous! How about celebrating by treating yourself to some coffee to make you even more beautiful than you already are? Better yet, set aside some time every week to pamper yourself…with coffee!
Coffee is a great source of antioxidants which have anti-aging effects and many other beauty and health benefits. Brewed coffee can be used as an astringent and a detoxifier while certain coffee oils make skin more elastic and have anti-inflammatory properties. Drinking your daily coffee actually makes your skin appear tighter, firmer and smoother because it constricts blood vessels.
Coffee grounds are also full of antioxidants and the caffeine can work wonders from the outside in. Use the grounds as an exfoliant to smooth away dry dead skin cells while promoting rejuvenation and softening skin. To make an at-home coffee scrub: combine ½ cup fresh coffee grounds with ½ cup sugar then add ¼ cup olive oil. Massage mixture onto skin and rinse thoroughly.
Another benefit of coffee grounds is that they can help fight cellulite. Who wouldn’t want to get rid of dimpled skin?! Take some used (non-decaf) coffee grounds and mix with a small amount of olive oil then place in a nylon stocking. Rub the mixture vigorously over problem areas and let sit for 10 minutes before rinsing off. This will increase circulation, exfoliate, and start melting fat while the oil plumps up skin cells for smoother looking skin.
If you want to glam up your dark hair, coffee can help. For a DIY hair mask just beat up two egg yolks then add a shot of rum, two tbsp. water, a tbsp. vegetable oil and some coffee grounds then apply to your hair. Leave it in for 5 to 10 minutes then wash with warm water to restore gloss and saturation to your dark locks.
Stay beautiful my coffee-lover friends!
